Making judgments of learning enhances memory by inducing item-specific processing

چکیده
A judgment of leaning (JOL) has been investigated to understand self-regulated learning. However, asking participants make JOLs may increase memory by creating a reactivity effect. In two experiments, we examined whether making would enhance inducing item-specific processing. We compared JOL task with other tasks that are known induce processing: pleasantness rating (Experiment 1) and single imagery 2; vivid mental images). Participants learned categorized or uncategorized list words. Memory should be enhanced when the promotes relational processing induces As expected, was categorized, recall higher in conditions (pleasantness imagery) than control condition. Furthermore, similar between conditions. When uncategorized, there no difference among JOL, processing, Making enhances concluded researchers need carefully consider how influences investigating study behaviors.

Judgments of Learning are Influenced by Memory for Past Test.
The Underconfidence with Practice (UPW) effect (Koriat, Sheffer & Ma'ayan, 2002), found in multi-trial learning, is marked by a pattern of underconfidence accompanied by an increase in resolution between the judgments and test on and after the second trial. We tested whether the memory for past test (MPT) heuristic (Finn & Metcalfe, 2007) could explain the resolution and calibration effects. To...

This mini-symposium aims to integrate recent insights from anatomy, behavior, and neurophysiology, highlighting the anatomical organization, behavioral significance, and information-processing mechanisms of corticostriatal interactions. In this summary of topics, which is not meant to provide a comprehensive survey, we will first review the anatomy of corticostriatal circuits, comparing differe...

In two samples, we demonstrate that visual search performance is influenced by memory for the locations of specific search items across trials. We monitored eye movements as observers searched for a target letter in displays containing 16 or 24 letters. From trial to trial the configuration of the search items was either Random, fully Repeated or similar but not identical (i.e., Intermediate). ...

متن کاملMaking Judgments
Reasoning-based problem solving deals with discrete entities and manipulates these to derive new entities or produce branching behavior in order to discover a solution. This paradigm has some basic difficulties when applied to certain types of problems. Properly constructed arithmetic functions, such as those using our SNAC principles, can do such problems very well. SNAC constructions have con...
